話しをするというのはまず相手の立場や相手の興味のあることを先に聞くことからはじまる。ポンプで水を出すときさそい水というのをしたことを覚えているが、相手のあり方や相手の位置がわからないでは話しというのは生まれてこない。まず相手がこっちにむかってくるように、自分の中でエネルギーを出してあたためていることである。
作品というのもそういうふうに相手がそのものにふれてくれるような何かを作っていることである。しかる后に話しというのは生まれてくると思う。
むつかしいことではなく、誰もが持っている衣食住とかいった生活とか風情とか恥話し等もさそい水となる。どうだろうかといううかがいが大事。1996年1月10日 MEMOより
Talk
Talking starts by firstly listening to the other person’s situation and interest. Just as when you pump water, you need a little bit of water to “prime the pump,” a conversation does not develop without knowing the others’ stance and position. To make the other person come towards you, you need to warm up the energy inside yourself.
Likewise, artwork is to make something that the viewers can connect with. Then, a conversation can be born.
It doesn’t have to be difficult subjects, but familiar themes of ordinary life such as clothing, food, basic needs, and something atmospheric, or even embarrassing stories can be the “priming water” of talk. It is important to ask how they feel.
