人間というのは、お金が出来るとお金に、時間が出来ると時間に、地位が出来ると地位に、うぬぼれるとうぬぼれたように、親があると親にたより、いつもどこかにたよって生きているし、すぐに安心したがるのである。創作上のことでも自分のスタイルや何かこれがオリジナルな自分だけのものが出来たりすると、もうそれにあかをためこんでふんぞりかえり、くさりきってしまうのである。
それが普通の人間である。もっと大きな視野からみれば小さいひとつのことにすぎないのであるから、生きている時にどんどんと自分の新しいことをするべきであって、そのやったぶんが自分の豊かさになるのである。わけのわからんことの中に真理はかくれているのであって、我々の揣摩憶測では計り知れない無限大のおもしろいことがかくれていると考える時、心をとめているひまはないのである。常に新しいものが充満しているのがこの世と信ずればおのずと心は動かざるをえない。1997年9月18 MEMOより
No Stopping the Mind
People always become obsessed with something: money if they have money, time if they have time, status if they have status, vanity if they have vanity, and parents while they have parents. They lean on something, and want it to make them feel easier. In creating art also, when artists have built their own style or originality, they tend to sit around in complacency and become rotten.
This is a normal human thing. But, if you see things from a wider perspective, it is only one small thing. So while we are alive we should try doing something new again and again, and the amount that we do becomes our richness. Truth lies hidden in the unknowable, and if we consider that there are infinite fascinating things hidden beyond just guessing, there is no stopping the mind. If we believe this world to be constantly filled with new things, naturally our minds cannot help but be moved.
