Doing New Things, and New Incidents

自然というのはきちんと嘘がない。沢山の雨が降れば洪水で田や畑、家も流れてしまうが、適量なら人々が潤うというように雨ひとつでも自然にその状況は出てくる。失敗を恐れずにやればそのように形になる。
この度、芦屋市で僕は美術館の2階の展望のきくガラス窓を全面に白で塗り込んだら、風景が見えなくその場の空気が変化する。又そのようにする設定も僕の中から湧き出てきてやる。普通にはそんな事してなんの利益にもならんことはやらない。だから人は、考えつかない意味のないことや全く我々の損得、合理的なこと理解ではないこと、そこに人間は解放感を感じるのである。その解放感こそが生きているよろこびである。

Doing New Things, and New Incidents
Nature does not lie. When it rains a lot, a flood could wash away rice fields, crop fields, and houses; but if the rainfall is modest, it brings a natural blessing to people. Rain is only one example of nature creating the situation. If we don’t fear, and make actions, a form is created from that.
In Ashiya City, a museum has large glass windows with great views on the second floor. For a coming exhibition, I plan to paint the entire glass white. I block the scenery, and the atmosphere of the place will change. The idea to actualize this flows from within myself. Normally, people don’t bother to do something that doesn’t bring some kind of a profit. But, we humans can feel a liberation from a seemingly meaningless action that people don’t come up with, things that are incomprehensive for a profit-loss or logical mind. That feeling of a liberation is the joy of life.
Doing something new is the incident itself, beyond our comprehension.
