Misunderstanding

日々の普通のことが普通に受け取れていればよいのに、どこかに期待や無関心といったことで夫々の生き方が考えなくても出来てくる。
そうした違いこそが大事なのであるのに、その違いを概念や多数決や教養や意地やその他人間の中に有る「ありとあらゆるもの」で、訳の解らん誤解を生んでいく。その時におこるのは自分が正しいという、自分がその人のことを考えて云ったのに、その云ったことが逆になっているといった事からとんでもない方向へと行くことが多々ある。その為に又あらためて軌道を修正するのが人間の営みである。
この営みの量こそが、僕にとって作品の形になってくるように思う。しんどいけれど誤解の多い程豊かなんだと自分を励ませながら。今も⋯ 1995年8月25日 MEMOより
Misunderstanding
We should accept day-to-day ordinary things as being ordinary, but due to things such as expectations, or a lack of concern, without even thinking about it, an individual person’s way of life is formed.
The differences in each person is indeed important, but through our concepts, majority rule, knowledge, stubbornness, and a variety of things within us, unthinkable misunderstanding occurs. Believing ourselves to be correct, we say something to another for the sake of that person, but what was said could be taken in the opposite way and lead to a ridiculous direction, which could happen over and over again. For this reason, it is a human endeavor to continually correct our route.
For me, the amount of this endeavor becomes a form of my artwork. Although it is hard, I encourage myself that the more misunderstandings I have, the more enriching it becomes. Even now…
